What time should I post? How do I get more likes? I want more followers!

Yeah, those days are about to be over…

Great another Instagram and Facebook update. The same old shit where we review more growth ideas. I promise that’s not what this blog is about.

Basically, CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, posted a detailed article about the future of social media. Here’s how he plans to keep the more than 1 billion people that use Facebook every day engaged— and how you can survive the social media purge.

“I believe a privacy-focused communications platform will become even more important than today's open platforms. Privacy gives people the freedom to be themselves and connect more naturally, which is why we build social networks.

Today we already see that private messaging, ephemeral stories, and small groups are by far the fastest growing areas of online communication.” - Mark Zuckerberg

To recap here are 3 things that are changing:

1. Private Messaging

Before, Facebook hasn’t had the prettiest rep in data privacy. However, they are making steps to encrypt texts on their platforms ( whatsapp, Instagram direct message, and messenger). Not only does this mean safety and security for us ( ideally they can’t read our messages anymore ) But it just proves that people prefer to have intimate conversations. Your consumers prefer to just fucking talk to you one on one and stop feeling like a small fish in a sea.

2. Ephemeral Stories

What the fuck does ephemeral means? Yeah, I had to Google it too.  Ephemeral means lasting for a very short time. What Mark has found is instead of posting publicly on a time feed, the fastest growing prefered communication are 24 hours stories. I remember when Instagram first release stories, people baffled at the idea of them copying snapchat. Few years later, stories have become an influential communication tool. Why is that?

I believe people don’t want to have what they say last forever. It’s too much pressure to facetune, filter, and think of a caption. People feel insecure on the feed. However, stories are a great way to say something without fearing about how people will think about you. And anyways, nothing lasts forever.

3. Small Groups

Small groups and DM chats are the best way to talk to your close friends and share memes. Personally, my favorite way I talk on my channel about how to grow an audience starts is to DM people and build a community. Furthermore, quoting Seth Godin “tribes”:

“A tribe is a group of people connected to one another, connected to a leader, and connected to an idea.”

“A group needs only two things to be a tribe: a shared interest and a way to communicate.” See full video on how to build a Groupchat

“Tribes need leadership. Sometimes one person leads, sometimes more. People want connection and growth and something new. They want change.”

I believe in data privacy and community first. Facebook is taking first major steps into a more connected economy.

How are you truly connecting and sharing your message today? Do you agree with Mark?

Any suggestions or questions?
